Can eCMR , eFTI and freight exchange platforms be sustainable projects for CO2 reduction?
"In order to meet the EU’s climate and energy targets for 2030 and reach the objectives of the European green deal, it is vital that we direct investments towards sustainable projects and activities. The EU taxonomy is a cornerstone of the EU’s sustainable finance framework" finance.ec.europa.eu states in its article.
According to 2020 Eurostat report, 20% of EU road freight trips are empty. Cargo Sign research, based on Transport Market Monitor by Transporeon and other reports, claims that spot loads consist of 10-20% of total EU road loads. The ADMIRAL project together with VTT with its smart digital solutions, aims to offer the European Commission a solution on how to reduce CO2 by 20%.
So should we combine EU top freight exchange platforms: Teleroute Freight Exchange, TIMOCOM, Transporeon, Trans.eu GmbH, LKW WALTER, Awake.AI, eCMR, and eFTI4EU Project to achieve this 20% goal?
CargoSign product owner Simonas Niedvaras and NORMALIS TECH project manager Ieva Markucevičiūtė-Vinckė believes that combining the following tools can lead to a significant impact on CO2 reduction:
👉 eFTI: for data exchange, data accumulation, and scope3 reporting.
👉 eCMR with CO2 calculator: for CO2 prediction and calculation using primary data per trip.
👉 Freight exchange platform: to eliminate empty trips and allocate transport routes based on CO2-friendly routes.
20% of all trips in the EU are currently empty. There is a 20% ambition to reduce CO2 emissions through smart solutions. Additionally, 10-20% of all total loads are handled through digital freight exchange platforms. These numbers are interconnected. Perhaps setting an achievable target and investing resources in this direction could lead to significant benefits?
